A huge change is being introduced to ATM cash machines across the country in the coming months
A major cashpoint operator has announced that a huge 1,000 machines will no longer be free to use, with users soon to be charged for withdrawals. Notemachine will introduce the charges at 15 per cent of its ATMs in the next fews months, with users shortly charged 65p each time they visit a machine, reports the Mirror.
He said: "Government legislation protects 'access to cash', but crucially fails to address the broken funding model that is forcing ATM operators to convert. “Unless more funding is given, households will be left with a very small number of free-to-use ATMs." Currently, just 3,300 cashpoints in the UK are "protected", meaning they are required to remain free to use.
