Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. and his wife were allegedly recorded beating their teenage daughter, according to prosecutors.

On April 15, Small and his wife LaQuetta, the city's superintendent of schools, were charged with child endangerment and assault regarding their teenage daughter . on Thursday said he remains focused on his duties as an elected official -- as well as a father -- just a few days after he and his wife were accused of beating their teenage daughter .

Small, 50, was also charged with third-degree terroristic threats, third-degree aggravated assault, and disorderly persons simple assault, prosecutors said. In an affidavit filed by prosecutors, the girl said she made up the accusations against her parents because she was upset they wouldn't let her go out with friends.

The boyfriend secretly recorded an incident of Small allegedly physically and verbally assaulting the girl over a video chat, prosecutors said. The release also noted La'Quetta Small was accused of punching her daughter several times on her chest, also causing bruises. She allegedly dragged her daughter by her hair then hit her with a belt on her shoulders leaving marks, as well as punched her in the mouth.

Small said at the news conference that he and his wife have been interacting with state child welfare authorities and have nothing to hide.The prosecutor's office issued in response to the news conference, saying "the men and women of this office involved in the search conducted themselves in the highest professional manner," also noting Small and his wife "were treated with dignity and respect during the entire process.
