He did not accompany the team to its game Sunday.
JUPITER, Fla. — Yordan Alvarez was scratched from the Astros' Grapefruit League starting lineup against the Marlins on Sunday with a personal matter.
Alvarez took pregame batting practice at the team's spring training facility in West Palm Beach — customary for a game in Jupiter, which is only 15 minutes away — but did not accompany the team to its game. Manager Dusty Baker had Alvarez hitting fifth and playing left field in his original lineup. Lewis Brinson took Alvarez's place in the lineup and played right field. Kyle Tucker moved from right to left in Alvarez's absence.
