Martín Maldonado began the day batting .333 in July with three home runs and a 1.250 OPS in eight games this month. He had mashed a three-run homer against the A’s on. Home plate umpire Ben May did not want to hear the manager’s objections. “I thought the ball was low and he said he warned me, and I don’t really take kindly to being warned,” Baker said. “So it led to the ejection.”
