“I don’t really think about retiring,” Coach Nick Saban told Dan Patrick. “I always think about what the heck am I going to do if I do retire? That’s a scary thought.”
Entering his 50th season in coaching and approaching his 71st birthday, Nick Saban has reached the point in his career where questions about his retirement will persist until the day of it comes.
Saban expressed a similar thought in a speech to the Alabama Football Coaches Association in January, referring to retirement as an“I don’t know if that’s hard for people to understand,” Saban continued during Friday’s appearance on The Dan Patrick Show. “There’s nothing that I want to do -- like some people want to go to Europe or go to Scotland and play golf and all that -- I wouldn’t mind doing all that stuff, but I don’t have to quit my job to do it.
Even though Saban has often spoken about “the process” during his 15 years at Alabama, Saban said Fitzgerald’s point was one he had never thought about.
