On Thursday, Abbott put out a video criticizing O’Rourke for hanging out in Hollywood instead of being back home in El Paso, despite a historic surge at the Texas border.

The former Texas Attorney General has dialed up the anti-California rhetoric in past campaigns as well. During his 2018 re-election campaign, he went after then Democratic opponent Lupe Valdez for attending fundraisers in California where he said “California liberals with deep pockets” were backing her campaign.
Election Day is Nov. 8, and the first day of in-person early voting is Oct. 24. The first military and overseas absentee ballots start mailing out next week.
