Adrienne Jackson will share work inspired by Black women's triumphs and challenges for Art & Soul 2023's final event Saturday. The free program begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Indianapolis Artsgarden.

When Adrienne D. Jackson wants to find new ideas to choreograph, she listens. She's listened to her middle and high school students attalk about their hopes and wishes, bullying and where to go to college.

And she's listened to her own conversations. In the wake of the 2020 racial justice protests, these talks included telling her children about the importance of voting and to pull over and put both hands on the wheel when they see flashing lights., a company Jackson started about 10 years ago to give adult dancers performance opportunities. Dancers shared experiences and challenged one another in their views. Through that process, they created the work and performed it in 2021.

"We get to take an issue and create the space to be vulnerable with one another," Jackson said."It even spawned more conversation with my oldest son, who's now raising a family of his own. It's something else that I appreciate about pursuing the creative piece of myself. I get to live in it and not just make up a bunch of dances."
