Arlington ISD broke ground Wednesday on a new private fiber-optic network that district officials say will meet the growing demand for fast, reliable internet.election. The private network will cost $5 million, a district spokeswoman said.
Designed to eliminate internet outages, the new private network will connect every school in Arlington ISD, according to a press release from the district. Once installed, the district will have 10 times the bandwidth it currently has, and it can increase capacity whenever necessary by adding additional hardware.
“You can’t overstate how significant this is for our district,” Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos said in a prepared statement. “Just like when we build new facilities, this is about giving our students every opportunity to succeed and the tools to thrive in the 21st century. One of the most important tools is strong, stable internet.”
