Sunday's TCA press tour didn’t share much about Apple TV+’s identity or increase its momentum
Few of these look like automatic blockbuster hits or critical darlings. And the shows unveiled thus far still add up to a pretty small amount of programming when set against the deluge of shows streaming out of Netflix and Disney+. The latter seems determined to rub Apple TV+’s nose in their supremacy: while Apple TV+ was presenting at TCA, Disney+ paid to promote the hashtag #DisneyPlus on Sunday to advertiseNone of this spells certain doom for Apple TV+, of course.
Media analysts point out that the various streamers all serve different purposes for their corporate entities: Amazon shows help lure people into paying Amazon Prime membership , for instance, which in turn entices them to buy more goods with free shipping. And at least part of Apple’s strategy in creating Apple TV+ is to cement brand loyalty and sell more devices on which to play all these shows.
