Apple is facing a lawsuit in the US over allegations that the blood oxygen sensor in its Apple Watch is racially biased against people with darker skin.
The device includes a pulse oximeter which detects blood oxygen levels by shining a light through the wearer's skin. Sensors detect the reflected colors to estimate the percentage of oxygen in the user's blood.
"Reliance on pulse oximetry to triage patients and adjust supplemental oxygen levels may place Black patients at increased risk for hypoxemia," the complaint reads.
