An Antioch man and woman were arrested on suspicion of multiple charges Tuesday after their flight from a police traffic stop ended in an injury vehicle collision, authorities said.
According to a Santa Clara County sheriff’s statement, deputies responded shortly after 10:05 p.m. Monday to Valero, 1699 South De Anza Blvd., in Cupertino for a report of an armed robbery and carjacking. There, officers learned that suspects in two vehicles came up with a long rifle to an elderly couple pumping gas.
Antioch police said officers found and tried to stop that vehicle at 12:23 a.m. Tuesday at Shell, 4198 Lone Tree Way, and at first found the 22-year-old driver compliant and following requests. But the driver suddenly fled the stop at high speed, leading officers on a two-mile pursuit that ended when it struck another vehicle at Laurel Road and Hillcrest Avenue, damaging both vehicles.
The passenger was later booked into Santa Clara County jail, and both face charges of armed robbery, carjacking and conspiracy, the sheriff’s office said.
