Voorhees Township has approved its first applicant for medical marijuana sales with the intent to add adult recreational weed sales.
A South Jersey town is gearing up for adult recreational marijuana sales by approving its first medical marijuana dispensary, while Ascend Fort Lee kicked off medical cannabis sales on Friday with the intent to also expand to adult weed.
Dinatale said the township has five licenses for cannabis retail sales, and that Eastern Green, a company based out of Monroe Township, was the first to get approved by the Planning Board for a medical dispensary.Neelu Mudher, who is listed as both Eastern Green’s owner and President on the Land Use Development Application to Voorhees Township, confirmed her company’s plans in a phone call late Thursday.
Eastern Green was a 2019 recipient of a medical cannabis license from the New Jersey Department of Health, which handled the process now overseen by the state Cannabis Regulatory Commission starting 16 months ago. Dinatale said Voorhees Township opted in to adult recreational cannabis sales last summer and adopted an ordinance to allow it in December.
