The politician is an Everton season ticket holder
Andy Burnham has said "there should be scrutiny and challenge" of 777 Partners' takeover of Everton FC.
Mr Burnham, the Merseyside-born Mayor of Greater Manchester, is a season ticket holder at Goodison Park. Speaking to the ECHO at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, he welcomed communication from 777 but he would still scrutinise and challenge the company as they look to take control of the club.
He said: "There's an approach that could make sense. Having Everton linked to a network of clubs whereby there are more options for loans, you are less constrained from a transfer market or transfer window point of view, because there is a network then that can give options that we wouldn't have ordinarily. I can see how that actually enhances our position."
