Anchorage municipal officials say they’re in shock after receiving a wrongful termination letter on Wednesday from former Municipal Manager Amy Demboski’s attorney, accusing Mayor Dave Bronson of several past instances of unethical and illegal behavior.

The letter, addressed to Bronson and copied to the Anchorage Assembly and Municipal Ombudsman Darrel Hess, was submitted by attorney Scott Kendall, who represents Demboski.

Demboski detailed several allegations within the letter, including how Bronson pushed for the signing of sole-source contracts that were valued at over $30,000. Such contacts normally require Assembly approval. Demboski provided LaFrance with five of those contracts. The amount of the contracts totaled more than $190,000, and each was approved on the same day, Aug. 24, 2021.

“Information about contracts and financial information, purchasing information needs to be absolutely public,” LaFrance said. “It has not been public.”
