With the proposal to spend $46 million more in taxpayer money to revamp the Global Center for Health Innovation, reporter RobertVHiggs looked at how the millions already collected on tourism are spent -- and how the county might pay for this project.

Over the last four years, Greater Cleveland has committed more than $300 million in tax revenue toward supporting the region’s travel and tourism industry. A new plan would spend $46 million on revamping the Global Center for Health Innovation to officially merge the building with the attached Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland.

Now county officials are entertaining a proposal to spend $46 million more in taxpayer money to revamp the Global Center for Health Innovation to expand offerings to the adjoining Huntington Convention Center – a move proponents say would allow Cleveland to compete as a convention mecca of the Midwest.
