Early projections say San Diego could get a half-inch or more of precipitation during a 48-hour period starting at 6 a.m. Saturday
The National Weather Service is giving unusually early notice that a substantial storm could slosh through San Diego this weekend, potentially disrupting play during the Padres' first homestand of the season. Computer models say there's at least a 50 percent chance that an inch or more of rain will fall in the San Diego area during the 48-hour period that begins at 6 a.m. Saturday. The figure could go higher as new data comes in.
'The system will come out of the Gulf of Alaska, which makes it more like a winter storm,' said Casey Oswant, a weather service forecaster. 'That's unusual for late March.' The Padres will host the San Francisco Giants during a four-game series that begins on Thursday. The Saturday game will begin at 4:15 p.m., and the Sunday contest will start at 1:10 p.m. The daytime high will be 65 on Saturday and 62 on Sunday. The seasonal high is 67.
