This year, Remembrance Day takes place on Sunday, November 11. And to commemorate the fallen, new poppy's have launched - and they're now made from paper in a bid to help the environment.
As we near closer to November, there is one event coming up that many of us buy something for in order to show our respect. Remembrance Day is happening soon with it occurring on Sunday, November 11 of this year.
Items available include the new plastic-free poppy, the first time in 28 years that a new poppy has been developed. This can be bought for £2, £5 or £10 - the price is for a single poppy, but different amounts can be given to the RBL. "Hundreds of iterations were explored during the design process, scrutinising form, finish and usability. Paper was chosen over expensive and complicated bio-based plastics to create a single-material solution that can be easily recycled."Director of the Poppy Appeal, Andy Taylor-Whyte, said: “We are very proud to introduce the plastic-free poppy that will not only enable people to support our Armed Forces community but also continues the RBL’s commitment to sustainability.
A number of items are also dated 2023 to show the year of issue. These include the 2023 Poppy Lapel Pin, priced £5, and £7 pins in a gold or silver tone.
