Peggy Worrel, who has been a bus driver for Alvin ISD for 40 years, began driving buses in North Carolina when she was a 16-year-old junior in high school.After a total of 40 years behind the wheel of school buses in Alvin ISD, Peggy Worrel says she has no plans to stop.
She recently was named the district's transportation employee of the year during an event at Alvin High School.Worrel received her school bus license in North Carolina at age 16 when she was a junior in high school. She drove a school bus the rest of junior and senior year for $1 a day. Worrel said she received around $20 a month and saved five paychecks to buy a wedding dress. She and her husband, spent almost 59 years together before he died in 2020 from a heart attack.
