Shares of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. soared on Wednesday after the biotech said one of its drugs helped improve heart-disease patients’ capacity for physical exertion in a study, opening the door to an expanded regulatory approval that could add billions of dollars in sales in the coming years.
Alnylam shares rose 47.5% to $67.44 in morning trading, adding more than $8 billion to the company’s market value.
