Labour said today it's 'unforgivable' children are missing the start of the new school year
Seven schools in Greater Manchester have so far been confirmed to be at risk from reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete - as the new term starts today and tomorrow for thousands of children.
Opening a meeting of his reshuffled shadow cabinet he said: "We have got to hold the Government to account on so many issues. Children are not at school today because of the action the Government has failed to take in relation to schools. That is unforgivable. The concrete has also been found at an east Manchester school. Most of All Saints C of E Primary in Newton Heath will remain open, with only the assembly hall thought to be affected on Culcheth Lane.
St Bernard's said it wouldn't be opening on Monday, but aimed to open on Thursday, and some classrooms would need temporary scaffolding. The schools minister, Nick Gibb, said a list of schools affected by the potentially crumbling concrete would be published before Friday' as he put the delay down to the need for it to be 'accurate'.
