Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young drives against San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray in the second half of an NBA basketball game Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, in Atlanta. Young says Murray is"super underrated." CLEVELAND — Dejounte Murray marveled at the way DeMar DeRozan carried himself during his three seasons with the Spurs.
“I don’t ever want to be big-headed,” said the Spurs point guard, who made his first All-Star appearance Sunday. “I want to always have good people around me who are willing to push me and who aren’t afraid to tell me what I need to know.” Atlanta guard Trae Young, an All-Star starter from the Eastern Conference, said he was happy when he learned a few weeks ago that NBA commissioner Adam Silver selected Murray as the All-Star replacement for injured Golden State forward Draymond Green.
Brooklyn guard Patty Mills, the former Spur who participated in the 3-point contest, said he was always confident Murray would reach an All-Star level. “It’s a place of hard work and good values, and you not only have to be a good basketball oplayer, but also a good person,” Mills said. Like others, Williams marvels at how much improvement Murray has shown from season to season after splitting his rookie season between the Spurs and their G League affiliate in Austin.
