The German grocer was over £25 cheaper than its supermarket rivals based on a basket of 52 items
The cheapest UK supermarket for the 'big shop' has officially been revealed, with major supermarkets including Lidl, Asda and Tesco missing out on the crown.
It comes as shoppers across the UK have been hit with soaring costs of food on supermarket shelves after shop inflation levels reached a 14-year high. Latest figures have shown that food inflation levels jumped to 5.6% in June, up from 4.3% in May. Rival supermarket Lidl narrowly missed out on the title with a slightly more expensive total of £76.99.
Asda shoppers would find themselves paying £85.22 for the same basket of items, which was nearly £10 more expensive than Aldi. Tesco came in fourth with a total of £86.63, while shoppers at Sainsbury's would find themselves paying £87.24. Morrisons came in sixth with a total of £91.03.
