Hospitals are running out of a liquid form of albuterol, a medication used to treat people with breathing problems, the Food and Drug Administration said, weeks after a major maker of the product said it would shut down.
The FDA, which declared the shortage in October, said late Wednesday it is considering importing foreign versions of the medication. The type of albuterol in short supply isn’t the kind used in personal inhalers but is a liquid solution often administered at hospitals using a nebulizer machine.
