Fairbanksans looking to learn a trade now have an opportunity to get their foot in the door.

The Alaska Laborers Training School is holding a two-day open house on Wednesday, February 16 and Thursday, February 17, and is inviting the public to participate.

“If you are interested in environmental work, we’re going to have different suits and different respirators that you can check out,” said Danny Ruerup, Deputy Director of the training school. “If you are into the idea of going to Prudhoe Bay and creating a living that way, we got a pipeline model that we’re setting up upstairs, and if you’re into concrete, there’ll be a jackhammer.”

The trainings offered by the school cover a number of skills involved in construction. Ruerup said, “We do a lot of heavy highway, a lot of building trades, a lot of pipeline training.” And according to Ruerup, the construction industry carries plenty of benefits, including medical and retirement.
