Senate Republicans voted to pass a bill that prohibits the use of state funds for programs and offices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
The Alabama Senate has voted unanimously, just like the Alabama House previously, to approve legislation creating minimum mandatory sentences for possession of fentanyl.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A bill headed to the Alabama House of Representatives could greatly impact the diversity on college campuses and state agencies.
“The history we’re making in Black History Month is that we’re going to take opportunity away from Black folks,” said Senator Rodger Smitherman, D-Jefferson County. Barfoot says his bill intends to stop the promotion of divisive concepts. He says those concepts are ideas that place judgment or blame on a person or group of people based on their race, color, religion, sex, ethnicity or national origin.
Minority Leader Sen. Bobby Singleton, D-Choctaw County says the bill will make state universities unwelcoming.
