James W. Musgrove, Jr. is set to receive the Carnegie Medal, North America’s highest honor for civilian heroism.
Musgrove, a 79-year-old Birmingham retired investigator, is credited with saving lives when heHe’s one of only 15 people from across the U.S. to be honored this year.
Each of the recipients or their survivors will receive a financial grant. Throughout the 119 years since the Fund was established by industrialist-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, more than $44 million has been given in one-time grants, scholarship aid, death benefits, and continuing assistance. The Carnegie Medal has been awarded to 10,355 individuals since the inception of the Pittsburgh-based Fund in 1904.
