The 6th annual Highland Square Film Festival, celebrating local film talent and highlighting some of the best independent short films in the world, will take place May 13 at the Highland Theatre. A pre-festival event at the Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture Theatre is scheduled for May 12.
The festival features film-making workshops, panel discussions, artist spotlights and a short-film showcase at the Highland Theatre, which sells traditional movie snacks as well as spirits and draft beers. “We are thrilled to bring back the Highland Square Film Festival for its 6th year,” said festival co-chair Mina Riazi in a news release. “This year’s festival features an incredible lineup of films, events, and performances. We can’t wait to share it all with our community.”On May 12 at 7 p.m., the Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture Theatre will present the Akron premiere of Kelly Reichardt’s “First Cow.
The world premier of “The Portage Trail,” a fictional silent film from 1915, about Akron at the dawn of the 20th century with live accompanimentFestival tickets are $20 pre-sale and $25 the day of the event.
