It won't be as bad as it was in early June though, they say.

An interactive map of air quality for Thursday, June 29.Air quality warnings have been issued for New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania for Thursday due to lingering smoke from the massive Canadian wildfires, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters are expecting an air quality index between 101 and 150 for both regions on Thursday, on a scale that goes from 0 to 500. That puts the state’s air quality in the code orange category, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. The air quality was considered moderate throughout the Garden State on Wednesday, as the index was below 50 in most areas.

“There’s nothing that indicates that this is going to be anything like the June 6 to June 8 event,” said Cameron Wunderlin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. “However, it does look it could be unhealthy for sensitive groups.”On Wednesday, June 7, the air quality index reached 486 in an area of Central Jersey.

Anything above 300 is considered “hazardous,” the worst possible rating on the air quality index, and means everyone should stay inside with the doors and windows shut, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.Thank you for relying on us to provide the local news you can trust.
