The new ships are no TIE Fighters.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Ahsoka episode 3 introduces a new starship sharing all the weaknesses of the iconic TIE Fighter, but none of the starfighter's advantages. The quest to find Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger has taken Ahsoka Tano to the Denab system, where Ahsoka's old Jedi T-6 shuttle winds up caught in the crosshairs of Morgan Elsbeth's agents.
The action scenes in Ahsoka episode 3 open with a superb dogfight in which Imperial fighters launch an attack on them. The combined firepower of the fighter squadron and the turbolaser batteries of the Eye of Sion break through the T-6's deflector shields, causing significant damage. Despite this, Ahsoka and Sabine manage to put far more of a fight than should really be the case - largely because of a major weakness in their enemies' starfighters.
The Empire's New Starships Have The TIE's Big Weakness - No Shields The dofight is an exciting action scene, with Ahsoka piloting the T-6 shuttle and Sabine operating the tail gun. Surprisingly, the enemy fighters are destroyed with only a single hit - indicating they lack deflector shields. This was a notable weakness of the old Imperial TIE Fighters, noted for swarming rebel forces by sheer numbers but destroyed by even grazing blaster bolts.
The new ships seen in Ahsoka episode 3 demonstrated none of these advantages. While Ahsoka's ship is surely modified, it's unlikely to be as fast and maneuverable as a starfighter, so Ahsoka should have struggled to position her opponents in Sabine's crosshairs - meaning it's clear their opponents lacked the speed of TIE Fighters. They took far too many shops to damage the T-6 shuttle, indicating their blasters aren't as powerful.
