For many viewers, Ahsoka episode 7 was their first real chance to see just how dangerous Grand Admiral Thrawn really is.
Thrawn Is A Master At Predicting His Enemies Grand Admiral Thrawn is a master at predicting his enemies. Ahsoka episode 7 perfectly showed his methods; he studies his opponents, learning as much about them as he can, and then deduces their strengths and weaknesses. In Ahsoka's case, he was able to access whatever information was contained within the Inquisitorial Database, and learned she was Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan.
This is the same kind of approach Thrawn used in Star Wars Rebels. At one point, the Grand Admiral sent out probe droids to try to discover the location of a rebel base; the probe droids were sabotaged, but Thrawn rightly deduced that meant the base was on one of the specific worlds he'd sent them to, narrowing his search. Thrawn can turn even a defeat to his own advantage.
Thrawn knows how to use this to his advantage. There have been occasions where Thrawn's enemies became paralyzed with indecision, unable to choose what course to take because they feared they had been predicted. Indecision in battle is costly, because it affords your opponent with even more opportunities - as these military leaders learned to their cost, when Thrawn used their fear of him as a potent weapon.
