Jefferey Douglas Kimzy, 20, of Santa Barbara, Calif. was found in a wooded area in Marshall County, on April 17, 1997.

DNA testing has identified a headless body found in a creek in Marshall County in 1997 as Jefferey Douglas Kimzy, 20, of Santa Barbara, Calif. At right is a computer sketch made in 2021 of what the man was believed to have looked like. Marshall County investigators now have a name to go with the mystery of a headless body, John Doe 970400317, discovered 26 years ago.

In a press conference Wednesday, Sheriff Phil Sims said DNA testing has moved the investigation into a new phase - discovering how the body of a young man was found roughly 2,000 miles away from his home, and who was responsible for his death.
