TEXAS — The statewide gas price average in Texas is $4.33 this week, according to AAA Texas. While this is 16 cents lower than this time last week, it is $1.52 more than this time last year. This 16-cent decrease will mark the largest weekly decline in 2022. Only time can tell if this is a downward trend of gas prices or just part of the price fluctuation.
“The largest weekly decline in 2022 for fuel prices is good news for drivers, but we’re not out of the woods just yet,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “Gas prices will remain elevated compared to one year ago and could fluctuate in July, which is typically one of the busiest months in Texas for road trips and fuel demand.”
AAA Texas attributes the drop in prices to concerns about a decline in global demand later this year as well as increased. However, they do warn that July is typically the busiest month for road travel and gasoline demand, and the war between Russia and Ukraine may drive prices back up this month. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed across the Lone Star State, drivers in El Paso are paying the highest price average per gallon of unleaded fuel at $4.33. They are followed by Bryan-College Station at $4.43 and Longview at $4.39. The least expensive gas price average in Texas is in Laredo at $3.98 per gallon, very noticeably under $4. That is followed by McAllen at $4 and Brownsville-Harlingen at $4.01.
