A group campaigning to upgrade the A5 dual carriageway has told a public inquiry it will not tolerate burying any more road crash victims BuildtheA5.

Campaigners held a demonstration outside the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh where the public inquiry into the A5 is being held

Mr McKenna said that statistics from the Department of Infrastructure indicated that more than 10% of fatalities on Northern Ireland's roads were associated with accidents on the A5. "We have two young girls who drive the A5 every day, they travel to Belfast for university and the danger that they put themselves in just trying to get out of the entrance at the top of the property," she said.Image caption,Mr McKenna, from the Enough is Enough group, added that in contrast to the A5, the A4 road between Ballygawley and Dungannon in County Tyrone was upgraded to dual carriageway in 2010 and has since seen a significant reduction in accident rates.

"Over this period of time we have had multiple deaths on this road when this road should have been built," Mr Murphy said.
