To run this year’s event, which will take place Oct. 27 and 28 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Mission of Mercy is looking for about 1,200 volunteers. Eligibility for the clinic is simple: Anyone can come, regardless of income. The only constraints are that patients are over 2 years old and medically stable enough to be treated.“These are three of the most underserved areas in medicine,” said Pituch. “We are working on closing those gaps.”
Several years ago, Pituch was approached by a Pitt and UPMC colleague, José-Alain Sahel, chair of the department of ophthalmology. Sahel had heard of the success of the dental clinic and wanted to see if they could work together to add vision care.
