A right Royal walk through Lancashire countryside with a castle, waterfalls and beer hall at the end
If you’re planning to head out for a walk this weekend, there’s definitely worse ideas than heading somewhere where you can get tasty snacks at the start and quality food and drink at the end.
That’s what’s on offer on this week’s suggested route, which uses the Holmes Mill outlet in Clitheroe as the start and end point. Based in a former mill, the complex showcases its historic setting in a thoroughly modern offering. Its beer hall boasts the longest bar in the north and serves an excellent range of cask ales, while there is also a boutique hotel, restaurant, cafe, food hall and cinema. The food hall offers an excellent selection if you’re after something to take along the walk.Of course, if you’re deliberately setting out for a walk, there’s much more to be interested in than just what’s available indoors.
The route was first drawn up by Visit Ribble Valley and covers a distance of 4.2miles. It should take around an hour and half to two hours to complete and includes a few kissing gates but avoids steep climbs. If you’re stocking up on snacks for the walk, take a left out of the food hall, then left again onto the pedestrian walkway, up the steps and through the gravel car park onto the street. Turn right then cross the road to enter castle grounds via the gate opposite the pub.
