A QB competition could be brewing in New York. New Giants GM Joe Schoen suggested that change could be on the horizon, while not committing to keep or replace Daniel Jones just yet. Here's the latest from jfmckessy. FrontOffice33 | TogetherBlue
It’s been three years since the New York Giants took Daniel Jones with the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Through all of that time, the questions of whether he can or should be the long-term answer under center for New York still haven’t gotten definite answers. With that being the case, a competition for the starting quarterback job may be up for grabs when training camp rolls around.
One big issue has been Jones’ inability to stay on the field. They say the best ability is availability, and the Giants’ starting quarterback has not been available. Through three career seasons, Jones has not yet played in more than 14 games in a year, missing time each season with various injuries. It was an ankle sprain his rookie year, then another one plus a hamstring strain the next year, and most recently, a neck injury held him out for six games to end the 2021 season.
“We’re going to bring in competition everywhere, but Daniel Jones is our starting quarterback right now,” Schoen said at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday. “[Bringing in quarterback competition] is something we’re going to look at and going to address.”
