Perhaps Marta Kauffman should apologize for the show’s gay panic, or Susan’s tragic bridal hat.
Kauffman’s recent apologies are laudable. But for those of us whose true love ofKauffman apologies we may yet see in the days to come. Here is a partial list of other things for which theWhen we meet Monica , she is slim. But we soon learn that she was heavier in her youth, and much fun is had at her expense.
Rachel says her home ec class constructed Monica’s extraordinarily large band uniform on the pretext that they were making it for the school mascot; her field hockey nickname was Big Fat Goalie; etc. In the show’s second season, we see footage of Monica and Rachel before their prom: The joke on Rachel is that she had a much larger nose before the correction of her deviated septum, and the joke on Monica is that she’s being portrayed by Cox in facial prosthetics and a fat suit.
