Strong storms possible on Thursday.
AUSTIN, Texas — Astronomical spring officially began on Tuesday, and nowof the spring season. Thursday will bring scattered to widespread storms to Central Texas, and there is a low-end risk for severe weather.
The Storm Prediction Center currently includes most of the KVUE area in the"marginal" – level 1 of 5 – severe weather risk for Thursday. The primary threats will be hail and strong winds. We're still ironing out the exact details of the forecast, but we have now increased the storm chance on Thursday to 60%. There could be a few storms around in the morning, especially southeast of Austin, but it now looks like the higher storm chance will arrive during the afternoon and evening.
There could be a few different rounds of rain and storms through the day, especially areas along and east of Interstate 35. Unfortunately, this could be another event where the bulk of the wet weather misses the Hill Country. Some computer models are coming in more aggressive on the rainfall potential on Thursday, showing potential for a widespread 1 to 2 inches along and east of I-35. For now, we're going to keep a more conservative forecast.
The current thinking is there will be seven-day rainfall totals of one-half inch to 1 inch along and east of I-35, and then lower totals that could be one-quarter inch or less for the Hill Country. Most of this rain will fall on Thursday, but there is also another chance for rain early next week that could add to these totals.After Thursday, the weekend is looking very pleasant with highs in the mid- to upper 70s and no chance for rain.
