Houston Rockets' Kevin Porter Jr. reacts after his team's loss to Toronto Raptors after an NBA basketball game in Toronto on Friday, April 8, 2022. The Rockets set up a final play that the Raptors blew up, as they had much of what the Rockets intended down the stretch.

Their season was in its final days, and they were playing a team seeking to lock down its playoff positioning as the fifth seed and keep alive a longshot hope to move to fourth . When the Rockets succumbed to all of that, Silas cited the length and physicality and defensive tenacity the Rockets felt. But there was a competitiveness and toughness that offered a lesson.

“Every game means something to us,” Porter said. “We try to come into every game and win. This being our last two games, us being a youth team, some of the guys – Josh Jalen – it’s the last two games of our rookie season. The year went fast. We want to... go hard.”The Rockets handled the Raptors' defense early. They responded to it after their lead was gone. They were prepared for the zone and the traps and made their way through them. But it all took a toll.

“I thought we did a good job against their press. They took it off earlier in the game. Against their zone, we executed pretty well against that as well, although we didn’t get as many 3s as I wanted to. They are unique the way they are built.” That especially bothered Green, whose streak of 30-point games ended one short of Allen Iverson’s rookie record of six straight. Green never seemed comfortable, turning the ball over five times in ways he rarely does, even missing 2 of his 4 free throws while making just 3 of 10 shots.
