Such awful news for so many 💚

More than 100 people have lost their jobs after a Blackburn haulage firm collapsed into administration.

Just 11 out of 119 members of staff were saved from redundancy this week when Kenyon Road Haulage hit financial crisis alongside sister firm Kenyon Warehousing. The business has been based in Blackburn for 90 years and announced the job losses on Monday. In its most recent accounts, which saw a £130,000 loss on almost £14m turnover, the company pointed to problems including a driver shortage which had pushed up wages and agency costs, while noting the impact of Covid and fuel prices had also had a punitive effect. The firm had said a return to profitability was forecast in 2022/23 but administrators have now been called in.

A spokesperson for Kroll’s said: “Michael Lennon and Steven Muncaster of Kroll were appointed as administrators to Kenyon Road Haulage Limited and Kenyon Warehousing Limited on March 20 2023. Due to the financial position of the entities both companies ceased to trade upon the appointment of administrators with 90 of the 97 road haulage and 18 of the 22 warehousing employees being made redundant.

“The remaining staff have been retained by the administrators to assist in the administrators with their duties and wind down operations.”
