Submit it online or call Alaska's News Source!ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Two Alaska seafood shipping industry companies settled a lawsuit for violating the Jones Act, a law that requires goods be transported by U.S. flagged vessels between U.S. ports, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Alaska released Friday.

The BCR was built to move seafood so companies could say they met the Canadian rail exception of the Jones Act, Zimmerman wrote in the release. Investigators said the companies violated the Jones Act because the BCR didn’t meet the Canadian rail exception. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued multiple penalty notices to Kloosterboer and other companies.
