While this isn’t the first time temperatures reached the 60s early in the new year, it doesn’t happen frequently. Only 14 other times since 1939 has this been the case during the first seven days of January.
Tuesday’s high temperature of 62 degrees brought in the new year along with rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures forecasted to reach 59 degrees on Wednesday and continued rain throughout the week, according to predictions from the National Weather Service at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Like this week, many of these warm-weathered days were also coupled with rain, with 81.2% seeing trace amounts of precipitation or more. On Jan. 4, 1993, 1.03 inches fell on the 61-degree day, the most out of any 60-degree day in the first week of January.
The lowest temperature after a 60-degree day or higher in the first week of January happened on Jan. 5, 1997, when temperatures fell to 29 degrees after a high of 65 degrees during the day.
