A 17-year-old boy was among five people killed and a 12-year-old boy among 30 others wounded by gunfire over the weekend in Chicago.
An 18-year-old man was shot to death while driving in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood Saturday afternoon. He was traveling west about 2:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 17th Street when he was shot in the lower back, Chicago police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.
About 45 minutes later, a 17-year-old boy was found fatally shot on the Near South Side. Anthony Sims was found about 7 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in an alley in the 1900 block of South State Street, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Additional information was not available.
Around the same time, a 24-year-old man was walking in the 9700 block of South Jeffery Boulevard when someone in a black sedan opened fire, striking him in the right leg, police said. He self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center and he was listed in good condition.
