Running back Elijah Mitchell was ruled out of the 49ers’ season opener before halftime because of a knee injury.
CHICAGO — Running back Elijah Mitchell’s season opener ended prematurely because of a knee injury.
As for how serious of an injury it is, that’s to be announced. Mitchell was evaluated in the 49ers’ sideline medical tent and remained on the bench before walking with his teammates to the locker room at halftime. The 49ers turned to Samuel, quarterback Trey Lance and veteran rusher Jeff Wilson Jr. for their ensuing rushing attack. Undrafted rookie Jordan Mason was the only other running back in uniform and he didn’t take an offensive snap in the first half.
