All 400 branches of collapsed retailer Wilko will close by early October with the "likely" loss of all 12,500 jobs at the chain, according to union GMB. The union claims it was informed of the development by administrators PwC on Monday morning .
GMB said it meant it was now "likely" all of Worksop-based Wilko's staff would be made redundant - following the series of job cuts already made. Nottinghamshire Live understands PwC has declined to comment on the claim. It comes after a rescue deal involving the owner of HMV, Canadian businessman Doug Putman, collapsed. Wilko has long been one of Nottinghamshire's most successful and recognisable firms, being measured as the fourth-largest company in the county last year, before it was placed into administration last month.
Although it has been based at Manton Wood in Worksop since 1995, the business was founded in Leicester in 1930 by James Kemsey Wilkinson, whose family privately owned the business for nearly 100 years before it was placed into administration.
