A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing on a Mission Valley freeway on-ramp and injuring five children, including a 3-year-old boy thrown from the vehicle, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on the Qualcomm Way on-ramp to west Interstate 8, where the Ford Explorer overturned, California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said. The boy ejected from the SUV suffered major injuries. Four other children in the vehicle suffered “various injuries,” Castro said. They were all taken to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment. The ages of the other children were not released.A toxicology report was pending and the investigation was ongoing, Castro said. Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the CHP at 293-6000.
