Kris Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian in episode eight ofThe Kardashians.Throughout the season, The Kardashians have expressed an increasing awareness that one day, their kids will actually watch the show. This came off as something of a subtweet; specifically to the spurned Kardashian exes Kanye West and Scott Disick. Were the references to the kids meant to indirectly pressure West and Disick to tone down their infamously “loose cannon” approach to public relations? In any case, Kris’s comment made me wonder whetherwhich feels like it glosses over their personal dramas more than their previous reality show, is at least somewhat shaped to be future-kid-friendly.
This theory appeared to be confirmed by the unexpected anecdote Kim uses to bring Davidson into the second half of the season. While hanging out with Kris in her pristine kitchen, Kim describes overhearing 12-year-old Mason Disick telling North about his recent change of heart on future stepdad Travis Barker: “You know,” Kim says, quoting Mason, “getting a stepdad isn’t so bad. They’re not these evil people like you see in the movies.
Our closest encounter occurs when Davidson calls Kim while she’s filming a confessional, and the screen tells us that her new beau is on the line. Kim answers with: “I have a mic on. I’m not entertaining this right now.” She doesn’t put him on speakerphone, and we proceed to watch a brief and giggly one-sided conversation with Davidson that ends with Kim calling him “babe.
