We previously inaccurately reported that Mazda had announced this was a hybrid inline-six, which is incorrect. Mazda has separately announced the CX-90 will be available with an inline-six, and now as a plug-in hybrid, but has not specified which engine will be paired with an electric motor for its hybrid powertrain just yet. We apologize for the error.
This new setup will be dubbed the"e-Skyactiv" plug-in hybrid powertrain. According to Mazda, the electrified powertrain has been"tuned specifically for the North American market." Unfortunately, that was pretty much all that Mazda is willing to share for now. We still have no idea of the type of all-electric range the hybrid powertrain might be capable of.
We do know that the full-sized three-row American-made CX-90 SUV is set to make its world premiere in January next year. So, it shouldn't be too much longer before we get more information from Mazda. The same platform the CX-90 is built on will be the foundation for the upcoming smaller CX-70 SUV as well.
