Two Bowie High School students were taken into custody Friday morning after handguns were found in their backpacks, Arlington police said.
Arlington police said school employees notified the department about 8 a.m. after the guns and a container of marijuana were discovered. Officers confiscated the items and detained the students to whom the backpacks belonged.Machai Kelley, 17, was booked into the Arlington jail on charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place and having marijuana in a drug-free zone, records show. His bail had not been set Friday afternoon, and it was unclear whether he has an attorney.
