The park is located within three Essex County towns and borders another.
The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. and the teen was taken to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center with puncture wounds to her leg, a spokeswoman for Essex County Sheriff’s Office told NJ Advance Media.
Following the attack, Crest Drive and the South Mountain Dog Park were closed, but were expected to reopen on Saturday, according to Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.The county-owned park covers 2,112 acres in the central section of Essex County and is located within portions of Maplewood, Millburn and West Orange, and borders South Orange.
